Stephanie Hughes, Director & Solicitor
Director Stephanie Hughes is a local country girl originally from the Trundle and Tullamore districts. Stephanie moved to Dubbo as a young child where she completed much of her schooling before completing her higher education in Orange and university studies at Newcastle. Steph returned to the Parkes and Dubbo areas in 2007.
Steph holds Bachelor of Finance and Bachelor of Law degrees and is admitted to Practice as a Lawyer and Solicitor in the High Court of Australia and Supreme Court of New South Wales.
Having grown up on the land Steph is proud to continue in farming and agriculture whilst working legally within rural communities.
Steph instils in Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing her values from a rural upbringing, together with every day common sense.
Steph is a passionate lawyer focused on finding solutions and achieving outcomes in all areas of law.
Liz Leigo, Licensed Conveyancer
Licensed Conveyancer, Liz Leigo, was born and raised in Forbes. Liz completed her schooling and tertiary studies in Forbes before commencing work in a local law firm.
After a few years, Liz resigned from her employment in Forbes and moved interstate. After travelling around for approximately three years, Liz relocated to Parkes where she continues to reside with her husband and family.
Liz gained employment in Parkes with the same law firm she worked for in Forbes, where she stayed for many years. During this time Liz found that she enjoyed working on conveyancing matters and decided to further her education in this regard.
Consequently, she enrolled as a mature age student at Macquarie University where she successfully completed her studies over a period of two years and was granted her Conveyancer’s Licence in early 2014.
Liz joined Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing in 2015 and has been an invaluable asset to the team.
Liz has embraced the technological advances in modern conveyancing such as using PEXA settlements.
Jessica Bourke, Solicitor
Solicitor Jessica Bourke is a local girl who grew up on a farm near Trundle.
Jess completed a double degree in Criminology and Law through the University of New England in 2015; completing most of her degree by distance education.
Jess completed the College of Law Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice in March 2016 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia in May 2016.
Prior to becoming a solicitor Jess worked as a law clerk for several years in other rural firms where she gained invaluable knowledge and experience.
Jess has been recognised by the Central West Law Society having received the Bursary Award in 2010, 2015 and 2016.
Jess has a keen interest in all areas of the law but especially enjoys litigation and works mainly within our Family Law, Criminal Law and Wills and Estates areas of Law. Jess is also appointed to several Legal Aid panels.
Jess is passionate about providing a quality, ethical and innovative legal service to the local community.
Jess joined Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing in September 2016.
Melissa Matthews, Solicitor
Melissa grew up in the Central West town of Cowra before completing a Bachelor of Business at Newcastle University.
Melissa worked in Sydney following graduation before moving to Wollongong and then back into regional NSW at the first opportunity.
Melissa and her family relocated back to Parkes in 2011, where her husband was raised and his family still resides.
Melissa brings to Hughes and Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing an array of experience having worked for various local and state government departments, and also in private industry.
Melissa joined Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing in March 2016.
Melissa was awarded a Diploma in Law from the Legal Professional Admissions Board in 2014 and was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in February 2017.
Melissa is focused on bringing her love for business and commerce to Hughes & Co. Lawyers & Conveyancing.
Lucy was born in Newcastle, she says, “back when dinosaurs roamed Nobbys beach.” Lucy was primarily raised around Clovelly and Willoughby.
Lucy met her husband, a Forbes local, in 1985 and moved from Sydney to be with him – she says, “it must have been love!” They now have two adult children both born in Forbes, and two granddaughters who are the sunshine of her life.
In 1990, after the birth of their second child, Lucy and her husband moved to Sydney for five years. In 1995, they returned to Parkes and have been here for the last 21 years – making her a Parkes local!
Lucy has held various positions both in the government and private sectors up until 2006. Lucy then began working for a long standing law firm in Parkes. She had been with that practice for nearly ten years until her previous employers’ retirement. Lucy joined the Hughes & Co. team in May 2016.
Lucy brings with her an array of experience and knowledge across all fields of law but particularly Probate and Conveyancing. Lucy is also a Justice of Peace.
Lucy has a wonderful sense of humour and hopefully will make you smile at least once a day!
Nicole was born and raised in Parkes, completing her schooling at Parkes High School.
Nicole commenced work as a Legal Secretary in 2010 part-time whilst she completed her Certificate III in Business Administration at TAFE. Thereafter, Nicole became a full-time Legal Secretary with a long standing law firm in Parkes and Peak Hill. Nicole remained in this employment for some seven years before she joined the Hughes & Co. team in May 2016.
Nicole always has a friendly smile and polite phone manner. Nicole is usually one of the first members of the Hughes & Co. team to greet our valued clients and she is only too willing to help.
Nicole primarily assists in family law, wills, power of attorney, enduring guardian, civil law and commercial law but has a vast array of experience across all areas of country practice.
